Office & Miscellaneous Projects

Our organization has several opportunities for individuals and organizations who would like to provide support on administrative projects:

     -     Help with quarterly newsletters

     -     File documents

     -     Sew Christmas stockings

     -     Canvass area businesses for donations

     -     Help one of our aging clients with yard-work

We are never short of needing help in assisting people in our community.

Respite Care Volunteers

Our respite care program is designed to help give emotional and social support to families who are caring for homebound love-ones.  Our Respite Care program works with trained Respite Care Provider volunteers who are carefully matched with families to provide them with quality in-home respite care. Our volunteers also undergo a background check and are provided monthly training for non-medical respite care.

Our Respite Care Provider volunteers are rewarded by the gratitude the families extend. The help our respite volunteers provides is one of the fastest growing area of need in human services as our aging population continues to grow and our cost of health care continues to rise. If you have 2-4 hours per week of time you would like to devote to working with families in our community, we will ensure to support your efforts and make sure it is a rewarding experience.

H.E.L.P. Volunteers

H.E.L.P. stands for the Health & medical Equipment Loan Program that provides durable medical equipment and supplies that help adults attain a greater level of independence and improve the quality of their lives. Whether if it is a bath chair that will help a person take a bath/shower without assistance, or a lift chair that will help a person avoid having to ask for help, our equipment is here to make life easier.

Our HELP volunteers enjoy

      -     helping make deliveries,

     -     refurbishing equipment, or

     -     assisting customers on-site in our display room

If you have 2-5 hours to give back to the community, our organization will make sure to make it an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

Leadership Volunteers

Educational Providers

We are committed to continuously educating our Respite Care Provider volunteers, staff, Board of Directors, and the families that utilize our services. If you have the knowledge and skills to present to a group of 7 – 30 individuals and would like to share your knowledge, we would like to speak with you.

Board Members

Our Board of Directors members are all volunteers from various parts of the community. HELP Adult Services believes in a diversity of skills, qualifications, demographics, and knowledge to lead the direction of our organization. Contact the Executive Director at (402) 341-6559 x105 to request a meeting or a Board Member packet.

Questions & Answers

Q:  How many hours do I need to commit as Respite Care Provider volunteer?

A:   We ask for only 2-4 hours per week. We also ask that you commit for nine months or more, so that we can provide stability for the families we serve. Please note that our Respite families are extremely appreciative of your time sacrifices and therefore are very flexible. We also require our Respite Care Provider volunteers to attend 6 monthly training sessions over 12 months. This is an opportunity to learn and meet other people in the community.

Q:  How many hours do I need to commit as a Health & medical Equipment Loan volunteer?

A:   We ask for only 2-5 hours per week.

Q:  Do I need a CDL license or a truck to help deliver the durable medical equipment?

A:   The organization has a cube van available for volunteers to use. No special license is required to drive the van.

Q:  Will you pull a credit report?

A:   No, but we do conduct a criminal and abuse background check.

Q:  Do I need experience with health care or respite care in order to qualify as a volunteer?

A:   No. Our Respite services are explicitly NON-MEDICAL and families are aware that you are there only to provide comfort and emotional support. However, before you start, HELP Adult Services staff provides training to help you prepare for your experience. We also provide our volunteers on-going training hosted by health care and other professionals that help volunteers understand the different types of health care issues relating to respite care.

Q:  How do I start volunteering today?

A:   You may either print the Volunteer Application form on our website and call our Program Community Liaison at 341-6559 x104 to schedule an initial visit and training session; or you may stop by our office Monday-Friday 9:00am – 5:00pm to complete a form. The Volunteer Recruiter will call you to schedule your initial visit and training session.

Q:  Do I have a say in picking the respite family I will be working with?

A:   YES! We will accompany you during your first new family visit. After the visit, if you think that the family is a good fit, we will assign them to you; if not, we will try pairing you with a different family. We know the importance of creating a comfortable and rewarding experience for our volunteers. We will also stay in contact with you to address any concerns or questions that may arise.
